Honoring Officer Lichwala, Photo Essay
The length of a life is important, yet far less so than how that life is lived.
This past Tuesday, members of the Chicago Police Department were joined by many others from the community to honor Police Officer Maggie Lichwala. Maggie has been a long-time member of the CPD's Community Policing Office in the city's 25th District. In that role she showed devotion and care for a community, particularly among its senior citizens. Sadly, Maggie continues to battle with a terminal cancer diagnosis. She once again is showing the face of inspiration ---- and courage.
Below I have linked my photo essay from the gathering Tuesday.
It was my privilege to witness and participate in the tribute. I salute and offer my prayers of support in honor of an honorable person. I salute as well those from the 25th District and among Maggie’s friends and family who pulled the event together. Maggie clearly touched many deeply and the event allowed them to say and express their feelings directly to Maggie. They gathered for Maggie and Maggie's family. They gave and received so much. A salute to all of those who made the event possible. Truly well done.
